Creative Improvisation and Performance tuition
I have 20+ years teaching experience. I am interested in an authentic approach to forging sound and improvisation - What is your saxophone sound? What does your improvisation sound like? I have explored and developed techniques to ignite creativity and freedom, and enhance musicians interested in expressive, imaginative playing.
I can devise bespoke lessons to incorporate specific needs, and use my experience to guide pupils into new directions.
I have helped instrumentalists and vocalists with:
How to play, learning the basics and forging a great technique
Grade exams
University/Conservatoire auditions
free-improvisation/instant composition
musicianship and communication
jazz harmony and theory
extended techniques, depth concepts, alternative stimuli and contemporary notation
individual performance projects
For the past 15 years I have also worked with young musicians in creative ensemble settings. I have been utilising my ensemble methods and experiences within 1:2:1 lessons - an approach to sit alongside traditional tuition or be a focused direction. Click the button to read testimonials from students who attended my ensembles Jazz Project and Jambassadors. I hope this provides a further insight into my 1:2:1 teaching approach.
Please get in touch if you are interested in booking a lesson. Lessons can be in person, online or a mixture.
